With the upcoming solar eclipse just around the corner (on Monday, August 21st), there are many exciting learning opportunities for students. Many of Green Valley's teachers will build the eclipse into their curriculum and classroom conversations. Most importantly, the school will emphasize to students the safety message of not looking directly into the sun or eclipse. (The only safe way to view the eclipse is through special eclipse viewing glasses that filter enough harmful rays to make viewing the sun safe). Mr. Templeton, our science teacher, is preparing students on viewing safety, and building pin hole cameras. Several classes have approved viewing glasses as well. It is Green Valley's goal, to allow every student to participate as they desire, in a safe manner.

1st-5th GRADE BACK-TO-SCHOOL NIGHT (Aug. 23rd):

Back-To-School night for 1st-5th grade is on August 23rd. The schedule is 1st-3rd grade from 5:30-6:30 pm in classrooms, followed by the Principal's meet and welcome 6:30-7 pm. 4th and 5th grade will start with the Principal's meet and welcome at 6:30 pm and will then go to classrooms 7-8 pm.

BACKPACK DRIVE (Aug. 14th-28th):

It's a new school year and chances are you have purchased a new backpack for your child. If that means you a gently used backpack from last year lying around your house, we hope you will consider donating it to our sister school (Heights Elementary) in Pittsburg, CA. What better way to kick off school than to donate your old backpacks to kids that don’t have any this year? But you need to act fast; we will only be collecting through Friday, August 28th. Bins have been set up in the school office, as well as outside the library. Thank you for your support!

We are always in need of supervisory help during lunch recess and this school year is no different. Grades 1-3 have lunch/recess from 11:45am-12:30pm and Grades 4-5 have lunch/recess from 12:35pm-1:20pm. If you are able to help on any given day, please sign up by clicking here. Be aware that all Green Valley Elementary volunteers need to register through the San Ramon Valley Unified School District's Volunteer Management System before they can help at school.

Parents please follow all parking, drop off, and pick up rules. Cars should ONLY use the back lot for drop-off and pick-up. The front lot is solely for bus drop-off /pick-up at the start and end of the school day. In addition, cars should never be left unattended in the drop-off lane of the back parking lot. When this happens, traffic becomes very congested and causes not only unnecessary stress but also creates safety concerns as children move around the parked vehicles. Lastly, but very importantly, parents please wait for your children in the courtyard, rather than the school hallways.

Each year, San Ramon Valley Unified School District asks parents to complete an online “Annual Update” to verify household and emergency contact information and complete the annual release acknowledgement and permission requirements. This process opens for Green Valley on Friday, July 28th. Simply go to your Infinite Campus Parent Portal and click on the link provided.

Green Valley is using a new online system called Future Fund for registration for the 2017-2018 school year. Registration will be done entirely online, starting July 28th - August 11th. Click here to access Green Valley's Future Fund page, enter your email address and provide a password to create a registration account. You may also log in with your Google or Facebook accounts. If you have questions about this year's registration process, please email our Green Valley PTA Registration Coordinator.
