The theme for the spring 2018 book fair is “Paws for Books”. Using the template here, have your child create a colorful, stunning, punning and creative bookmark in support of our upcoming Spring Book Fair: "Paws for Books." A winner from each grade will be selected on May 20th, and the prize is a $10 voucher to be used at the book fair. For more information, and to download the bookmark template go to the Green Valley Library page.

This bi-annual event always needs a bevvy of volunteers. And there's lots of different ways to help - from assisting students with their wish lists, restocking books, placing orders, bagging purchases, and helping during the morning and after school rushes. You can also help with our ALL FOR BOOKS prize bag, or you can lend us tables to use for the duration of the fair. We also need help setting up and taking down. To sign up, please click here.

Does your family have a favorite cultural tradition? Speak another language? Have a hobby or craft with global roots? We'd love for you to share it with the GV community at our second annual multicultural event, "Green Valley Goes Global," which is being held on Friday, March 23rd, 3:15-5:!5 pm. This year, we are inviting families to share cultural diversity, not only through food, but also through an activity - students will get to travel the globe and collect passport stamps when they try food and activities from around the world. When they've completed their passport they will get a prize. Let us know your ideas and we'll help you organize a passport station. Perhaps you can introduce kids to the Arabic alphabet? Share the ancient art of Henna? Or engage students in the African game of mancala? The list of possibilities is endless and we'd love to hear what YOU want to share. Click here to sign up, or contact Jennifer Law or Jyoti Ghandi.

Parents/guardians are invited to submit information about what their student may benefit from in the 2018/19 school year. To participate, please fill out the associated form and return to the office no later than March 16, 2018. Note, no letters will be accepted after this date. Please provide information about the teaching style/characteristics that will best suit your child(ren), along with any other pertinent information you feel will help ensure an excellent placement. DO NOT LIST A TEACHER SPECIFICALLY BY NAME. Please make sure to fill out a different form for each child if they happen to be in different grade levels.

Dr. Ransdell, who for the last three years has led limited groups of 4th graders in before-school STEM activities, will now offer a science-based after school enrichment program for Grades 3-5. Young scientists will build things that release energy (go, spin, fly, or fall), to introduce concepts of physical science. Students will develop expectations, compare to experience, and have fun along the way! The program will take place Tuesdays from 3:15-4:15 pm on the following dates: 3/6, 3/13, 3/20, 4/3, 4/10, 4/17, 4/24, 5/1, 5/8, 5/15 (10 weeks). The cost is $188. Go to www.gvenrichment.com to sign up.

In anticipation for the opening of Green Valley Elementary School's new Maker Lab, Imagineering has developed a special class just for young makers! Being a maker requires creativity, thoughtful designing, and problem solving skills. This hands-on class challenges students to think outside the box. Visit our registration page at, www.bit.ly/srvef_imagineering.

Run Club will meet every Friday at 8-8:30 am on the school blacktop, starting March 2nd. The Run Club is a PTA sponsored club for all Green Valley students, parents, and staff that want to participate, and is designed to provide a positive and healthy opportunity to develop a routine of physical exercise while having fun! Run, skip, walk, leap, or hop as many laps as you can! To register your student, please complete the permission slip during Green Valley registration or fill out the form available in the front office. We are hoping to have at least two parents join us each Friday. You do not have to be a runner to help, but you just might become one! For questions please email Coach Matt.

The 2018-2019 Instructional Calendar is now approved and available to view/download from the district's website, as well as Green Valley's own website (accessible via the Parent Resources tab). You can also view by clicking here.

Ever since the beginning of the school year, we have reminded parents to follow parking, drop off, and pick up rules. These rules include how cars should only use the back lot for drop-off and pick-up, because the front lot is exclusively for school buses at the start and end of each school day. Unfortunately, despite the reminders, the front lot is still being used by some parents and caregivers, and it has now impacted some of our students. Children on the GV-9 bus were delayed more than 90 minutes recently, after a car hit their bus while it was picking up students in the front lot. The students had to remain on board the bus for California Highway Patrol, per protocol. Those 90 minutes were extremely stressful - not only for the children (some of whom were visibly upset), but also the parents waiting for them to come home.

This was an accident that should never have happened. So, if not for any other reason, please help keep our children safe by adhering to our parking, drop off and pick up rules. Only park in the back lot. Always use the crosswalk when walking your children to and from the back lot. And please wait for your children in the courtyard (versus school hallways). Thank you for your cooperation!

We are always in need of supervisory help during lunch recess and this school year is no different. Grades 1-3 have lunch/recess from 11:45am-12:30pm and Grades 4-5 have lunch/recess from 12:35pm-1:20pm. If you are able to help on any given day, please sign up by clicking here. Be aware that all Green Valley Elementary volunteers need to register through the San Ramon Valley Unified School District's Volunteer Management System before they can help at school.
